Have a Good Boss? Tell Them Today!

August 9th, 2007 · 7 Comments

A Form Letter of Appreciation

This isn’t sarcastic. If you have a good boss, why not do this or something similar?! You can just click the “email this” link at the end of the article. If you do give it to your boss, you’d better email me to let me know! If you get your boss to email me, you and your boss will go down in history.

Dear good boss,

While on my lunch break or at home, I have been enjoying a site dedicated to bringing some added joy into the world and the workplace. Part of what the guy does is just to be funny. Part of what he does is to help people with bad attitudes, bad bosses, and bad jobs make the changes they need to make to be happier and more productive.

Well, guess what, good boss… You’re a good boss. Some of what I’ve read on his site would be really hard to deal with, but I appreciate your approach to helping me do my job, and I have it pretty good here.

You’re my best friend. Keep up the good work; it makes a difference to us.

Signed,
Your good employee and Chuck Westbrook of our company and ihateyourjob.com, respectively

Speaking of warm fuzzy feelings, I’m feeling very thankful for my readers today. It’s taken me a lot of hard work to find you, and don’t think I’m not grateful.

Do me a favor. Insert your name in the above letter everywhere I said “good boss.” Now rewrite everything so that it makes sense again and delete the part about in the salutation about “Your good employee.” Now give it to yourself.

There. See? I really do value your readership!

-Chuck

What should you write if your boss is an ass? :D

@Angela– “Dear boss, I didn’t send you this letter today (link to good boss letter).

    -Angela”

    How’s that?

Ah, Chuck. Once again, you make me chuckle. (There’s some sort of rhyme/pun in there, isn’t there?) This is great! Good bosses certainly deserve knowing that they are!

Thanks again for your support and encouragement, and for the great things you do here!

I guess I always look for my boss to give me a word of praise for good work. What a great idea to thank your boss for being a great boss.

I should have done this with my boss before he was forced out of the organization.

@Eric B– You know, it’s amazing how few people get enough random, earnest appreciation and praise.

SO I’ve been thinking. how often do I ever tell anybody that they had a positive impact on my life… You know I don’t think anybody just accidentally makes your life better. i think it takes a lot of effort to be friendly, or courteous, or just a nice person in general. and how often do I ever say thank you for that. … NEVER … I’m a terd
I will say thank you more often. Thanks for the reminder chuck, as always a pleasure to read your witty banter
