Personal Mission Statements: Way Cool

September 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Do you realize that the average person spends more time planning a vacation than they spend planning their life?

As with that vacation, if you don’t spend time deciding where to go and how to get there in life, you’ll probably just roam around.

Creating a personal mission statement will help you decide what is important to you, and it can give you a reminder each morning of what it is that you truly want to focus on throughout the day.

Your statement can be short or long, a narrative or a list–what matters is that you capture what it is that you want to be becoming in your life in fairly specific terms.

Invest some time to create a good first draft, read it over each day when you need some perspective, and continue to adjust and refine it as needed throughout your life.

Over time, you’ll find yourself living more like you want to be living, and you’ll generally be more satisfied with your daily life (including your work).

The travel analogy works real well for people to understand the difference between mission and vision - vacation, a missile, career progression. good post.
