So, I’m Big In Bulgaria, Apparently?

August 13th, 2007 · 27 Comments

I’m pretty sick today, so I don’t have the ability to concentrate on writing a full post. I’m having a good moment, though, and wanted to share this with you guys.

Today we were linked to by www.capital.bg which, as far as I can tell, is a pretty major publication out of Bulgaria.

Thing is, I can’t get any translator applications to help me understand the text of the link, and after poking around a bit, I gave up on it.

So welcome to all my new friends from Bulgaria and surrounding areas. If any of you would be so kind as to translate that little bit that sent you here, that would be awesome.

Bulgarian Flag

Today, my new second favorite country.

I need to take a screen shot of it, so I can tell my grandkids.

If you want to see the article (it’s part of a blog post on their page) go here.

All for now, hope your day is going well, and thank goodness for Tylenol PM!

-Chuck

I went on holiday to Bulgaria many years ago and learned three words.

    Brogadaria = thank you
    Edno = one
    Duvo = two

This is the closest I’ve ever come to using that information.

@Woodshed– If you buy something in Bulgaria with a $5, and it only cost $3, you’ll have all the language you need to count along and then be polite.

hey Chuck…Hope you feel better … Tylenol PM is a wonder drug :)

  • 4 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 13, 2007 at 3:58 pm

@Pearl– Thanks. I’ve never been sick for that many days in a row. Apparently it’s going around the entire county. I’m still not 100%…

According to the translator I used it says:

You resent your occupation? Chuck as well . . . hated your work

Shout out to the translation Web site: http://webtrance.skycode.com

@Heath– Thanks for being the first to step up to the plate. Looks like your translation is a pretty accurate one too.

Sorry you are currently under the weather. :-\

I think we all want to become popular in Bulgaria. Congrats!

  • 8 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 13, 2007 at 7:44 pm

@Brent– I know that’s been my primary goal since I started this site…

  • 9 Tiffany // Aug 13, 2007 at 11:08 pm

Wow. I am suffering from some blog jealousy. Way to reach out there, Chuck!

  • 10 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 13, 2007 at 11:09 pm

@Tiffany– I can’t take any credit for it, really. I just happened to check my stats and saw all this traffic from the page. No idea how/why it happened.

Not even sure how applicable what I say is to the Bulgarian economy. I was certainly excited, though. : )

Online translation’s getting pretty good it seems.
    To be specific:
    Hate your job?
    Chuck also… hates your job!

  • 12 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 3:39 am

@Sunder– Pretty incredible. I wonder what those tools will be doing 30 years from now, for example. Thanks for chiming in!

Feel better Chuck! And 100 readers all ready!? CONGRATS!

  • 14 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 5:55 am

@Bush– Thanks! I was pretty surprised to see that, actually. Looks like today it’s up to 110! I should get ill and quit posting more often, apparently.

  • 15 Rosie // Aug 14, 2007 at 7:30 am

Wow, you’re an international superstar!! Congrats. Hope you feel better soon!

  • 16 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 7:31 am

@Rosie– I’m going to have to use a false name whenever I travel to Bulgaria, now. The fans are quite oppressive, there. ; )

  • 17 Like I say // Aug 14, 2007 at 7:40 am

..it’s better NOT to be popular there.
    People get killed for less.

Bush is an intellectual giant compared to BG Interior minister and just recently it was published..also in Capital..that the president is State security agent with dirty past.

    Relax, Chucky
The worst that could happen is becoming as pop in USA

  • 18 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 7:41 am

@Like I say– This is all very alarming. How am I supposed to relax at a time like this?!

  • 19 Darin // Aug 14, 2007 at 1:32 pm

Yeah yeah yeah feel better Chuck and then come out to have lunch with us again. Congrats on the overseas viewers. They are not as cool as me but still hooray for you!

  • 20 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 1:33 pm

@Darin– They are certainly not as cool as you are. Not even close. Don’t sweat it, man.

  • 21 Peggy // Aug 14, 2007 at 7:58 pm

    Feel better, Chuck.

I had to get a map to refresh my geography….

Welcome to fellow posters from Bulgaria :-)

  • 22 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 7:59 pm

@Peggy– (I had to get a map too!)

  • 23 Maureen // Aug 14, 2007 at 8:04 pm

Bulgaria has changed so much since my first visit there. The first time I just wanted to cry. I have good friends in Sofia. The progress and growth in the city in just a few years is enormous!

I’ll ask my friend Hristo to translate it when he wakes up in the morning. His English is better than many Americans and my Bulgarian is ok to make a toast.

  • 24 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 14, 2007 at 8:05 pm

@Maureen– What a nice surprise, and thanks for bringing your Bulgarian friend into the discussion.

How did you become connected with Bulgaria/Hristo?

  • 25 Hristo // Aug 15, 2007 at 1:28 am

    Hey Chuck,

Greetings from Bulgaria. Sunder did a correct translation above.

Your link is placed in “Misc” category and it literally says:

“Hate your job? Chuck also … hates your job.”

Just FYI, Capital is a major financial/economic publication.

    Hristo

  • 26 Chuck Westbrook // Aug 15, 2007 at 1:29 am

@Hristo– Thanks! I think that means we now have an authoritative translation.

  • 27 DeeJay // Aug 21, 2007 at 11:04 pm

    Hi!

As Hristo said, the translation from Sunder is correct.
In Macedonian (the neighbor country to Bulgaria) it would be:

“Ja mrazish svojata rabota? Chak isto taka… ja mrazi tvojata rabota.” (Latin)
    “?? ?????? ??????? ??????? ??? ???? ????… ?? ????? ??????? ??????.” (in Cyrillic)

[ “Hate your job? Chuck also … hates your job.” ]

By, the way you have very interesting blog.
    Greetings from Macedonia!
