An Introduction To This Feature
You spend 70% of your waking weekday dealing with your job. Do you want those days to be more enjoyable and more fulfilling? I do too. It’s too big a chunk of your time to just tolerate.
This blog helps you do that in two ways:
- To address particular problems: Especially for people in a bad situation, I want to help you find something better with useful information and tips.
- To be amusing and helpful for regulars: Bettering yourself is better when it’s fun. This is a place where you can take a break, enjoy yourself, and yet walk away feeling productive because you invested some time in your career.
This feature is designed to bring in helpful, interesting, and entertaining content and ideas from all over the web. In many cases, what I find will be from other career blogs, but I promise that you’ll find a variety of sources from which I’ll pull information for you and your work.
Now, without further, ado, “The Internet Hates Your Job: First Edition”
Everything: It’s Contagious!
(Including How You Handle Job Hate)
Seth Godin posted today that suicide and obesity are actually contagious, and there is research that proves it.
Common wisdom has always told us that “birds of a feather flock together,” but that doesn’t mean that we’ve been listening like we should:
-
If you are in a job that you need to leave, connect with friends and family in a similar situation (there are plenty of people in that situation) and feed off of one another’s good ideas. If you are teamed up, you will have an easier time remembering that you need to change, taking positive action, and getting a job that fits you.
-
If you are in a job that you plan on keeping, spend your time with people who try to keep a positive attitude and who seem to find enjoyment in what they do. This doesn’t mean someone who is always rosy–just someone who handles frustration well and takes smart steps to constantly improve their career satisfaction.
Made Me Laugh: Internet Entrepreneurship and Donald Trump
If you’re thinking about starting a “Million Dollar eBusiness” in order to escape your job, make sure it’s not one of the ones on this list. A very funny video that you should certainly check out at Young Go Getter. I could pretend that there’s a valuable takeaway here, but I won’t. It’s just funny.
Meanwhile, Maureen Rogers, fabled IHYJ commenter on the GOTFAT Maneuver, gives us a hilarious idea for how to tweak Donald Trump’s The Apprentice to make it more interesting. If you’ve ever questioned whether someone earned their success truly based on their ability, this post is for you.
Always Mind Your Manners
Alexandra “The Great” Levit helps illustrate why you should always be mindful of your behavior in public. Meanwhile, Penelope Trunk gives us some etiquette tips of her own that she says reflect today’s changing norms. Do you agree with her tips? Depending on your job, some of her suggestions might be a little shocking to you.
Career Disaster Preparedness
This is an excellent article at On The Job by Anita Bruzzese. Just imagine how nice it would be if you had everything in place to be able to no longer work at your job tomorrow–voluntarily or otherwise. Just imagine how awful the alternative would be…
That’s It!
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoyed this post. It was fun to write, and I hope it was useful and interesting to read. If not, I’ll probably quit doing it!

Your blog has been added to my Squidoo lens of funny blogs. Since not every humor blog gets this great honor, consider yourself blessed!

@Kuanyin– Thanks! For me that’s the hardest aspect of this site, by far. I appreciate the honor.
