Variety or Bust: Nothing Withstands Overkill

Too Much of a Good Thing

How would you like to eat your favorite meal tonight? Sounds nice, I bet.

What if you had to eat the same meal every day of your life? While it would be fun for a little while, eventually, you would grow to hate that food.

Human nature requires variety. Variety in who we spend our time with, what we think about, and what we do. Too much exposure to anything will cause it to spoil.

Now, take something you don’t love and repeat it over and over again.

Teletubbies

This falls under the “or bust” category

Is it any surprise that so many people dislike what they do for 40 hours a week?

I love sushi. I could probably eat it 5 days a week. But I wouldn’t always order a spicy tuna roll. You know what I’m saying?

Maybe the real problem is specialization. Doing only one specific task repeatedly is a bust. The only way I can enjoy what I do is by asking for a bunch of distinctive tasks within my realm of expertise.

We all have more than one strength we can rely on. Make your employer use them all. You’ll both be happy with the outcome.

If somebody would sponsor me I would eat a Chicken burrito from chipotle everyday until I couldn’t take it any longer. I guarantee I could go at least a month if not a year or possibly forever.
